Two cannabis-related events, 4/20Pregamin and BlowChella, took place April 19 and 20 at Hudson Fields near Milton.

The events featured vendors selling food and drinks, art, THC and cannabis products and smoking paraphernalia. One-third of the total proceeds will benefit Choose Joy Foundation, a Dover-based nonprofit that helps families who have experienced house fires secure the housing and necessities they need while they rebuild their lives.

4/20Pregamin, which took place on the first day, had a turnout of more than 500 people, according to Theresa Morris, founder of Choose Joy. BlowChella, which took place on Easter Sunday, had a much smaller turnout. There was also a cannabis-themed ball drop held at midnight, April 20.

At BlowChella, attendees had the opportunity to participate in the Weed Olympics to test their minds and bodies. Events included a munchie madness potato sack race, in which competitors had to finish a bag of chips while doing a potato sack race; a competition to see who could roll a smokeable joint most quickly; a hot wing-eating contest; and a challenge where competitors had to assemble a self-standing dinosaur from a jumbled pile of foam dinosaur body parts.

The winners received various prizes, including cannabis products, a Baby Yoda bong and different flavors of hot sauce.

The total raised for Choose Joy is not yet known, but Morris said she’s hoping for a few thousand dollars after expenses. Next year, she said, she’s hoping to run the event with lower expenses and more community involvement.

“I think folks are still unsure if they are OK to support a cannabis event,” Morris said. “Hopefully we showed those [who were] nervous that it is OK, and that they don’t have to hide anymore.”

This was the second year for the 4/20Pregamin event and the first in Sussex County.

Delaware legalized recreational marijuana in April 2023.
