Bruce Zeman is a seasoned broadcaster with a heart for community, best known for his groundbreaking partnership with his late canine co-host, Hobbes. Together, they made history in 2009 as the first full-time human/canine radio team in U.S. history, creating a dynamic duo that resonated deeply with listeners across Vermont.
As the long-time hosts of the WVTK Morning Show, Bruce & Hobbes shared their voices on stations including WCLX-FM, WOKO-FM, WTNN-FM, and WWFY-FM. Their show was more than just entertainment — it was a platform for spreading messages of empathy, compassion, hope, and resilience, making a lasting impact on their audience.
Beyond their radio success, Bruce & Hobbes were tireless advocates for important causes. Through their annual “Cash for Paws” radiothons, they raised over $75,000 for local animal organizations. They also visited over 250 schools to talk about anti-bullying and domestic violence, inspiring young people to embrace kindness and understanding.
Hobbes, an honorary Police K9, Deputy Sheriff, and Fire Dog, became a cherished figure in the community. His unique role in public life earned him recognition on the Vermont Legislature floor and made him a beloved symbol of compassion and service. In 2021, Governor Phil Scott declared July 28, 2021, as “Hobbes Remembrance Day” to honor his legacy. That same year, Bruce and Hobbes were inducted into the Vermont Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame — marking the first time in history that a dog was elected into a broadcasting hall of fame.
Bruce continues to serve the community as a broadcaster, covering high school and college sports in Addison County. His new partner, Gracie — a rescued 5 lb. Havanese — now joins him in his mission, and together they’re known as “Bruce & Gracie.” While Hobbes may no longer be by his side, his spirit lives on through Bruce’s continued work, reminding us all of the power of empathy, love, and making a difference.
