Committee advances plan for educator raises

The Public Education Compensation Committee presented a plan Jan. 11 that would increase starting salaries for teachers over a four-year period to nearly $60,000. “This puts us in a very competitive position,” said Mark Holodick, secretary for the Delaware Department of Education. MERR Institute to examine whale jawbone recovered from Bethany Beach

An unusual marine artifact was discovered Jan. 11 at Sussex Shores in Bethany Beach. According to officials at the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute in Lewes, it is a 12-foot-long lower jawbone from a species of baleen whale.
