An unusual marine artifact was discovered Jan. 11 at Sussex Shores in Bethany Beach. According to officials at the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute in Lewes, it is a 12-foot-long lower jawbone from a species of baleen whale. Lewes firefighters extinguished a shed fire Jan. 14 in the Tall Pines Mobile Home Park west of Lewes. The fire was reported about 7 a.m. at Field Road and Beech Road. Responding firefighters found the shed on fire near two trailers, officials shed. The fire was extinguished within minutes of the firefighters’ arrival, officials said.
