MERR Institute to examine whale jawbone recovered from Bethany Beach

An unusual marine artifact was discovered Jan. 11 at Sussex Shores in Bethany Beach. According to officials at the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute in Lewes, it is a 12-foot-long lower jawbone from a species of baleen whale. Shed burns in Tall Pines

Lewes firefighters extinguished a shed fire Jan. 14 in the Tall Pines Mobile Home Park west of Lewes. The fire was reported about 7 a.m. at Field Road and Beech Road. Responding firefighters found the shed on fire near two trailers, officials shed. The fire was extinguished within minutes of the firefighters’ arrival, officials said.
