NEWARK — Landmark Science & Engineering, a civil and environmental engineering firm based out of the Christiana Executive Campus, has been acquired by McKim & Creed.
McKim & Creed, headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., is an employee-owned civil engineering firm that has been on an acquisition streak for at least a decade. With 900 employees, the firm specializes in services for energy, transportation, land development, water and building markets, surveying, utility engineering and more.
The acquisition was finalized on May 27 and the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“This acquisition marks a significant milestone in our growth journey,” McKim & Creed CEO Street Lee said in a press statement. “By coming together, we’re able to serve clients in the Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland region with the same quality, innovation, and care expected from us while offering expanded resources, expertise and technology-driven solutions for Landmark’s existing customers.”
McKim & Creed has been buying out companies to grow its market share across the U.S. since at least 2013, when it acquired United Engineering Group which added energy and mechanical and electrical engineering to its portfolio. That deal granted the firm a stronger hold on the Gulf Coast markets as well as North Carolina.
Over time, the company opened a Pittsburgh office which it later grew by acquiring Loftus Engineers years later. It also has two offices in Virginia and the Landmark acquisition marks its first in Delaware.
Landmark was established in 1987 and has a team of 25, according to Delaware Business Times’ records. Notable projects the firm has worked on include civil engineering for Avenue North in Fairfax, engineering, construction revenue and stormwater management for the 400-unit Wilmington Flats, and the athletic field design of the Appoquinimink School District Fairview Campus in Middletown.
“Partnering with McKim & Creed is a natural fit for our team,” Landmark President and Board Chairman Ted Williams said in a prepared statement. “Our cultures align perfectly—we both prioritize people first. Our services complement each other, enabling us to offer even more comprehensive and impactful solutions to our clients. We are excited about this next chapter and confident in the value we can create together.”
