The eight-day campaign finance reports for both candidates in the District 20 special election were released July 31, with Democrat Alonna Berry bringing in about $59,000 and Republican Nikki Miller collecting about $48,000.
Berry filed her report July 31 listing $59,249 in total receipts from more than 100 Lewes and Milton area residents, who donated in increments from $25 to $600. The 20th Representative District Democrat Committee gave the most with $2,750, while upstate legislators, politicians and officials gave more than a dozen $600 contributions. Friends for Russ Huxtable gave $600, and Friends for Claire Snyder-Hall for Delaware gave $200.
Berry had $45,219.63 in expenses, which includes more than $35,000 spent with Publitics Solutions LLC of Middletown.
In Miller’s second finance report submitted July 30, she lists a total of $47,905 in receipts, with about 50 area contributors giving $25 to $600 increments.
The largest donation Miller received was $600, which she received from Friends for Brian Pettyjohn, Friends for Kim Hoey Stevenson and Friends to Elect Gerald Hocker, among other Cape Region business owners and political groups.
Expenses for Miller’s campaign came in at $17,949.15, in which JD Signs in Felton received $10,285.
Berry and Miller are vying for the District 20 seat previously held by Rep. Stell Parker Selby, D-Milton, before her resignation days before the end of the session, which she never attended due to a life-changing health incident.

Early voting will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, to Sunday Aug. 3, at Lewes Elementary School, 820 Savannah Road, Lewes, and Mariner Middle School, 16391 Harbeson Road, Milton.
