Police: Suspect shot after charging with knife in Cool Springs

A person was shot May 1 after police said after charging police with a knife near Cool Springs.

The incident happened about 5 p.m. when Delaware State Police tried to stop a driver who they said was suspected of driving impaired. The driver did not stop, police said, but pulled into a driveway on West Springside Drive. Police said the driver then charged at troopers with a knife before two troopers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.

Police said they administered first aid, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police ask people to avoid the area. More information will be released when available.
