Teens charged in Long Neck robbery

Two teens face robbery charges after police say they robbed a Long Neck teen Feb. 25.

Police said Jyair Freeman, 18, of Smyrna and Tizonn Trotter, 18, of Elkton, had communicated with a boy, 15, about buying some sweatshirts, and they agreed to meet in person. About 3:30 p.m., the two drove to a home in the 20000 block of Lucky Lane, police said, and when the 15 year old got into their vehicle with the sweatshirts, Freeman pointed a handgun at thim and struck him in the head. The 15 year old was able to get away, police said, and the two drove off with the stolen sweatshirts.

A short time later, police said, they spotted a Kia Soul matching the description of the car connected to Freeman and Trotter in the parking lot of a Shell gas station on Route 24. Troopers took Freeman and Trotter into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9mm handgun and the stolen sweatshirts, police said.

Freeman and Trotter were transported to Troop 4 and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy. Freeman was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of untraceable firearm, and third-degree assault. They were both arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of secured bond – Freeman on a $44,000 and Trotter on $21,000.
