The Lewes Historical Society has received a $1.5 million grant from the Ma-Ran Foundation.

The money is specifically intended for what LHS calls strategic enhancements of the Lewes History Museum, which is located in the Margaret H. Rollins Community Center on Kings Highway.

Those enhancements include potential building renovations, expanded advertising and bolstering of the museum’s general operating fund over the next three years.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ma-Ran Foundation for their continued support and commitment,” said Andrew Lyter, LHS executive director and curator. “This generous gift empowers us to further our mission at the Lewes History Museum, ensuring we continue to preserve, interpret and share the rich history of Lewes with our community and visitors.”

Lyter said the recent sale of the Zwaaendael Club netted LHS $850,000 to help sustain the society’s operations.

In 2017, the Ma-Ran Foundation gave Beebe Healthcare $10 million. In honor of Beebe’s largest philanthropic gift to date, the Savannah Road campus was renamed the Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus.
