Dewey commissioners to meet Oct. 20

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold their monthly meeting at 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 20 in the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. 

Members will possibly vote on ordinances to amend town code related to lodging tax and to revise the purpose of the beach assessment tax to include public safety and waste management. Commissioners may also vote to request the budget and finance committee evaluate and provide recommendations regarding financial impacts of potentially reducing free parking nights, extending the parking season to May 1 through Sept. 30 and amending the beach assessment tax rate from being based on the 1992 assessed property value to the 2023 assessed value.

Special Rehoboth meeting set Oct. 20

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for an executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel matters in which the names, competency and abilities of individual employees are discussed. It also calls for consideration and possible action on matters discussed in the executive session.

Rehoboth Beach meeting set Oct. 20

Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 20, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave.  The agenda calls for end-of-summer reports from city departments, a public hearing on a change of code related to canopy and marquee sign definitions and requirements, possibly changing the membership policies in the committee handbook, and awarding of a contract for a new city website.

Rehoboth green committee to meet 

The Rehoboth Beach Trees & Green Infrastructure Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for updates on the commemorative tree program, the tree tour, ivy infiltration and a possible tree program for property owners. Lewes officials OK Alaska Ave. project

Lewes Mayor and Council unanimously approved the city’s portion of the Alaska Avenue utility project at its Oct. 9 meeting.

Lewes Board of Public Works unanimously approved the project at its Sept. 27 meeting and agreed to share costs with the city. The city and the Lewes Board of Public Works will evenly split the $107,000 cost for the engineering and design phase.

The project is scheduled to be completed by May 2024.

Route 1-Old Landing temporary closure

Route 1 will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes in both directions in the area of Old Landing Road, which will have a single left-turn lane closure starting at 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22, through 1 pm., Monday, Oct. 23, for manhole installation. 

ACLU director to speak to Shore Dems

The Shore Democrats will hold its monthly meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View. 

Guest speaker will be ACLU of Delaware Executive Director Mike Brickner.
