Emmanuel Mensah, M.D., MBA, has been appointed chief medical officer of ChristianaCare’s Wilmington Hospital.

In this role, Mensah serves as the senior physician executive of Wilmington Hospital, responsible for quality, safety, care standardization, clinical outcomes and patient experience across the continuum of care. He works to be the liaison between the medical staff, operational leadership and the community.

Throughout his career, Mensah has developed an interest and expertise in health equity and disparities, quality improvement and health system design, with a focus on global health and developing countries. He works to contribute to the development of health care systems to address the burden of various diseases locally and around the world and is currently a member of the Africa CDC/African Union High-Level Advisory Committee on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD), Injuries and Mental Health.

Prior to joining ChristianaCare, Mensah served as managing director of the Center for Integration Science in Global Health Equity, a World Health Organization Collaborating Center, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and Firm Chief in the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). He also developed initiatives to increase diversity at BIDMC as the director of mentorship for underrepresented in medicine trainees.

For his outstanding contributions to education, Mensah received multiple teaching awards at BIDMC/Harvard Medical School – most notably, he was recognized with Harvard Medical School’s 2022 Charles McCabe Faculty Prize for Excellence in Teaching. His work improving health systems and addressing disparities led to his nomination as one of the 40 under 40 Leaders in Minority Health by the National Minority Quality Forum in 2019.

He previously also worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company working with various health systems globally.

Mensah earned his medical degree and MBA from Harvard University He completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, where he was recognized with the Jeffrey E. Silver Resident Award. He studied mathematics and biology at Dartmouth College.

Delaware Sea Grant has named Kathryn Lienhard the offshore wind energy research associate.

“It’s a privilege to be able to come back and serve Delaware, which is a place that I love so much,” said Lienhard said.

Lienhard received her bachelor’s degree in marine science at Coastal Carolina University where she learned about all aspects of marine science from marine biology to geology and coastal processes, along with getting great experiences doing field work.

“As an undergraduate, I was able to handle sharks and explore the coastal ecosystems in South Carolina,” Lienhard said. “But I knew I wanted to work more at the intersection of science and policy in this space of communication, research and community engagement.”

That interest led to her earning her master’s degree in Coastal Environmental Management from Duke University at the Nicholas School of the Environment. At Duke, Lienhard studied United States coastal marine policy, learning about aspects of coastal resilience.

“I’ve always been interested in climate change mitigation and coastal resilience, but this position interested me for the community outreach aspect,” Lienhard said. “Science is best when we get to share it with people and when we also get to learn about communities so I’m happy to be in this position where I’m going to build relationships with community members and local leaders and facilitate knowledge sharing.”

The Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau has added Courtney Haywood, M.Ed. as director of public relations, and Kristin Mohr as sales administrator, assisting director of sales Jessica Bittmann with meetings, conventions and group tours, to its team.

Haywood brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as the external communications manager at The Salvation Army’s National Headquarters, where she played a pivotal role in national campaigns such as The Red Kettle Challenge. Prior to that, Haywood served as the publicist for three nationally syndicated PBS shows: PBS NewsHour, Washington Week and PBS NewsHour Weekend. Courtney has more than 14 years of experience in the field of public relations, including five years serving as a strategic communications lecturer at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania.

Mohr brings more than 20 years of sales experience to the team, with a strong background in event planning and execution. Previously with the Chase Center on the Riverfront sales office.
